Alison Maureen Hughes has been an Educator for over 30 years. She started her Education at ‘Nen B’(this is parallel to the pre-school that we have nowadays) private School at South Hill and then The Valley Girls School. Alison continued her schooling at the then Valley Primary School and was subsequently transferred to the Basseterre Senior High School in St.Kitts.She finished school 1973.

She began her career as an educator in 1974.In the completion of her High School Education she taught at Newtown Primary School in St. Kitts. Subsequently she achieved a Certificate of Education after completing the programme in 1980.This was from 1978 to 1980.

Alison returned to Anguilla in December 1988 and began teaching at the Valley Primary School on January 1989.Her Educational ambitions weren’t over though, it took her all the way to the beautiful Caribbean island of Jamaica, to be precise the University of the West Indies, Mona, and Aim for Excellence she did and Excellence she did achieve.

There she completed her Bachelors in Primary Education in 1995.From 1993-1995(2 years).

On her return to Anguilla she was appointed a Graduate teacher and in the year 2000 she was appointed Deputy Principal of Road Primary School. In 2001 she became the Principal of the said school and remained there until 2006.She was then transferred to the Valley Primary School where she is presently the Principal.

To this day Alison continues to faithfully mold the young minds in our schools and community daily. Alison is friendly, humorous and gives advice when needed, and she loves her job very much.

Interesting Facts

• She is an executive member of the Anguilla football association
• Member of Bethel Methodist Church in South Hill and is also a congregational Steward, Sunday school teacher and member of other organizations
• The joy of her life is her 19 year old son Josef Hughes Caines, a local musician.
